Anya Taylor-Joy Reveals What Happened To Beth's Outfits From 'The Queen's Gambit'
Protagonist Anya Taylor-Joy has explained she was so fond of the costumes her character wears in the Netflix limited series, the costume designer let her keep them. But those A-line dresses and vintage coasts had to take a little detour first.
Anya Taylor-Joy Loves Beth’s Costumes Just As Much As Fans Did
The American actress of British and Argentinian descent plays chess prodigy Beth Harmon in the popular Netflix limited series.
“I was so lucky to work with the wonderful Gabriele Binder, and she and I got along like a house on fire immediately,” Taylor-Joy told Stephen Colbert.
The actress explained that Binder trusted her intuition of what was right for Beth. Binder wanted Taylor-Joy to feel comfortable and wear what she felt Beth would love.
Among the most praised elements of the limited series, the period costumes are a reference to the pattern of the chess board. A combination of vintage pieces and outfits created by Binder specifically for the show, the costumes won over Taylor-Joy right away.
She explained that Binder wanted her to keep the costumes once the series had wrapped.
“Because Gabriele and I worked so closely together, at the end of the show, she just came up to me and said ‘Honestly, they’re yours,’” the actress said.
“‘We found them together and you… Beth… the line is very blurry. You should just take them home,’” Taylor-Joy explained Binder said.
She added: “I was overwhelmed by that kindness because I really wanted to keep a bit of Beth with me.”
One can imagine Beth’s favorite dresses hung in Taylor-Joy’s closet, right? Well, not yet.
“However, the show is so successful, those clothes are currently in a museum,” Taylor-Joy said.
