Henry Cuellar is popularly known as an American attorney and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Texas’s 28th congressional district since 2005.

Before his current post, Henry served in the Texas House of Representatives for 14 years, from 1987 to 2001, and briefly served as the Texas Secretary of State in 2001, making him, as of 2022, the most recent Democrat to have held a statewide office in Texas.

Henry Cuellar Biography

Cuellar was born on September 19, 1955, in Laredo, the county seat of Webb County in South Texas. He was born to Mexican-American parents. His father Martin Siller Cuellar Sr. moved to the United States while his mother, Odilia Perez was a native of Zapata, Texas. Both parents are however late.

Henry graduated from Buenos Aires Elementary School and J. W. Nixon High School. He also received an associate of arts degree from Laredo Community College, then known as Laredo Junior College. More on his education, Henry also attended the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in foreign service. He also earned a Master of Arts in international trade from Texas A&M International University, a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Texas School of Law and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.

Henry Cuellar Career

Cuellar started his career as a broker. In 1983, he opened his own law firm in Laredo and became a licensed customs broker. From 1984 to 1986 he taught at Texas A&M International University as an adjunct professor of international commercial law.

A year after teaching at Texas A&M International University, Cuellar became a member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1987 to 2001. Most of the time, he represented Laredo. In his 14 years as a state representative, Henry served in leadership positions on the House Appropriations, Higher Education, and Calendar committees. He also served on several national legislative committees dealing with state budgets, the U.S.–Mexico border and international trade

In 2001, Henry was appointed to be secretary of state of Texas by Governor Rick Perry. He served in this position for more than 9 months before resigning.

Henry Cuellar Vehicle Stolen

Cuellar escaped unharmed on 2 October 2023 after he was robbed of his car. The police later recovered his car. According to reports, his car was parked on Monday (2 October 2023) at 9:30 p.m. in the Navy Yard neighbourhood, about a mile from Capitol Hill, when three armed people approached him and stole his vehicle.

Henry Cuellar’s iPad and iPhone were also stolen. He has, however, not commented on whether the devices were recovered.

Who Is Henry Cuellar wife, Imelda Cuellar? 

Henry is married to Imelda Cuellar. The couple are blessed with two children (females). They are Christina and Catherine Cuellar. Details about his marriage have been kept out of the public. It is therefore not known when they married. The couple however reside in Laredo, Texas.
